As a result of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care’s creation of the Local Health Integration Networks, specifically the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network, the Indigenous Health Planning Committee of the Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle evolved into the Indigenous Health Circle.
Indigenous community consultations occurred with the financial support of the NSM LHIN. The Aboriginal Community Engagement (ACE) Report prioritized the development of a health secretariat to coordinate the health related work being undertaken by various Aboriginal groups in the region. A strategic goal of improving Aboriginal health status and services was included in the NSM LHIN Integrated Health Service Plan (IHSP). The plan was endorsed by the communities and organizations and a business case for resourcing the AHC was developed.
